PCTE signs UKIERI proposal with City College, Birmingham, UK
The Punjab College of Technical Education (PCTE) has signed UKIERI
(UK-India Education and Research Initiative) proposal with City College,
Birmingham UK an academic partner of PCTE. UKIERI is an initiative taken
by United Kingdom and Govt. of India to develop and promote educational
and cultural awareness between UK and India. This project will be governed
by British Council. The partner institutions i.e. PCTE and City College,
Birmingham will get 35000 UK pounds per year as Grant to promote
educational exchange and curriculum development for more professional
courses jointly under this proposal. Staff from PCTE will travel to UK in
Sept 2009 under the scheme to identify course contents, curriculum
development and accreditation of courses and subsequently staff from City
College will also visit PCTE for the same purpose.
On this occasion Dr. K.N.S.Kang, Director General PCTE group of
Institutions informed that British Council selected six colleges in UK to
proceed with academic collaborations with Indian Institutions and City
College, Birmingham is one of them. City College, Birmingham had its
academic collaboration with PCTE and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar 3
years back. PCTE has been selected as a primary applicant for the proposal
by City College.
Dr Kang further informed that the basic objective of this project is to
identify students and staff from PCTE and City College who would benefit
from this cultural awareness programme, identify and develop curriculum
matching for business management courses, sharing good practises between
two institutions and with a view to developing a long terms embedded
UK-India cross curriculum courses registered with appropriate awarding and
assessment bodies. There are number of Indian companies investing in UK
Organizations such as these and many others would benefit from short
courses developed through this partnership in understanding the business
practices and local culture of India as more and more interaction between
UK and Indian professionals or trainers will take place under this
partnership. It is from this demand in both countries, to understand each
other and become more aware of each others cultures, that City College,
Birmingham and PCTE will help develop courses to meet the demands of those
in India and the United Kingdom whilst traveling from one country to the
other.
